Christopher Franke: "New Music For Films, Vol. 2"

About The Album

"New Music For Films, Vol. 2" is an anthology of some of the composer's most recent work for film and television. The compilation features eloquent, yet powerful epic scores written for symphony orchestra. Franke's graceful compositions are sporadically interwoven with ethnic instrumentations and modern designer sounds. This subtle blend of traditional and contemporary orchestrations leaves a lasting impression on the audience.

About The Composer

Christopher Franke was born in Berlin and studied classical music and composition at the Berlin Conservatory. During that time, he was actively involved in rock and jazz music with the group Agitation Free. Together with his composition teacher, Franke set up a sound studio within the music school. The improvisation courses they conducted resulted in a project that became the Berlin School of Electronic Music.

It was there that Franke met Edgar Froese and became a member of the legendary electronic group Tangerine Dream. One year later, he brought Peter Baumann into the band. From 1970 until 1988, Tangerine Dream released 37 albums and composed the scores for more than 30 feature films, including "Legend," "Sorcerer," "Thief," "Firestarter" and "Risky Business."

Franke left the group in 1989 and released his first solo album, "Pacific Coast Highway." He also founded the Berlin Symphonic Film Orchestra and opened a new state-of-the-art recording studio in Hollywood in 1991. Since then he has released more than 15 studio recordings and soundtrack albums, and has composed the music for numerous feature films which include the blockbuster "Universal Soldier" and the weekly science-fiction TV series "Babylon 5."
